“The Strength of Stillness”
©️ Daily Restorative Devotional
Scripture:
"Be still, and know that I am God."
~ Psalm 46:10
Message:
Stillness, like Quietness, can be uncomfortable, especially in a world that glorifies constant motion, "busyness" and noise.
But stillness is not inactivity.
It is intentional rest. A bold declaration of faith that says:
“I don’t have to strive for what God has already secured.”
Elijah didn’t hear God in the whirlwind, earthquake, or fire.
God’s voice came in a gentle whisper (1 Kings 19).
Stillness often reveals the sound of God's strategy.
Life Story: The CEO Who Burnt Out
I once knew this lady called Ada…She was a high-performing CEO who ran her days, every day, on adrenaline and ambition.
Her days were packed with strategy meetings, deal-making, and social events. But inside, she was tired, emotionally drained and spiritually dry.
One night, she could not sleep. Restless, she sat in her car outside her house and whispered, “God, I’m really tired of being strong for everyone. I need to hear from You?”
When she opened her Bible app, Isaiah 30:15 popped up:
“In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”
Something clicked. It was not about "plenty" striving. She needed to surrender.
Not about more of doing, but more of being.
That weekend, Ada turned off her phone, took a retreat, and wrote down what really mattered.
That quiet time restructured her entire life, personally, professionally, and spiritually.
๐ Here is the Scripture & its Historical Insight: Isaiah 30:15
“For thus says the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel: In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength. BUT YOU WOULD NOT.”
~ Isaiah 30:15 (NKJV)
Back Story:
Israel was facing a military threat from Assyria at the time. But instead of turning to God, they tried to form military alliances with Egypt, in the hope that political strength would save them.
Isaiah rebukes them.
God is saying:
“Right now, I am not asking you to hustle or negotiate your survival. I’m asking you to come back to Me.... and rest.” Yes. Wear MY Confidence like a cloak and REST.
Understand those Key Words:
Returning and Rest = repentance and calm reliance.
Quietness = Hebrew: shaqat: meaning: peace of heart and mind.
Confidence = Hebrew: bitchah: meaning : trust, reliance, assurance.
It was NOT going to be their physical effort that would save them. It was spiritual posture.
๐ How Quietness relates to Stillness:
Stillness is not silence for silence’s sake.
It is a spiritual discipline. It is a faith posture that acknowledges:
“I trust God more than I trust my plans.”
Quietness calms your fears.
Confidence anchors your hope.
Stillness creates space for both to grow.
